Season
II: Da Playoffs
by
Mad_Scientist, LEAGUE
PRESIDENT
The
16 Soldiers have been selected.
We don't call em the sweet 16 around these parts, cuz there is nuthn'
sweet about Da Playoffs! The field of 16 playoff contenders can
be divided into the following categories:
The NewComers
Six of the 16 Soldiers are new to DaONE
League. Anyone of them are more than capable of being Da1-S2.
Each coach has made a name for himself this season, for their tenacious
play. KennyBoy (NC State) and
Marino (Penn State) came to
DaONE highly-regarded, and they
did not dissapoint, leading their teams to undefeated records, and
finding themselves seeded 1 and 3 respectively. Nole4Real
(Washington) and UpTheGut (Mississippi),
both with 8-2 records, have also done well this season. USU
Aggie (Oregon) and Jett12
(Syracuse) made Da Playoffs with 7-3 and 6-4 records.
The Old Guard
Davon, XtraPott,
TDAUG, MaximasRex,
ChampDawg, MadSci and
Kontrol are playoff vets, having
made the playoffs last season. Their experience should bode well
for them this year. If there is pressure on anyone, it's DaONE-S1,
XtraPott (Iowa), who is attempting
to repeat as DaONE.
First-Timers
Melarri (Tennessee), BironM
(LSU), T-Bone (Arkansas) will
all tell you that they deserved to be in the playoffs last season.
Like Broadway Joe, BironM predicted
he'd make the playoffs this season, and then proceeded to do so
in good fashion, at the top of his conference. Melarri
sat on the bubble at the end of last season, and the bubble
bursted. No way that could happen two seasons in a row. His disappointment
drove him this season, as he beat down opponent after opponent with
a new attitude and new quarterback. A unfortunate string of events
led to T-Bone not participating
in Da Playoffs last season,
after he earned a trip to the big dance. If anyone has a chip on
his shoulder, it could be T-Bone.
Unfortunately, a terrible draw has him playing his lab partner -
slash - cousin TDAUG (Notre
Dame) in the first round.
Who will be DaONE - Season II?
Will XtraPott repeat? Can anyone stop the NewComers? Can the Old
Guard win? How about dem First-Timers? Only time will tell. Only
the strongest will survive...KNUCKLE UP AND EAT YOUR WHEATIES,
cuz Da Playoffs are not for
the faint at heart!
For more information, follow the playoffs here.
PAC10
Showdown: Gamecocks, Irish
to Battle for Division Title
TheNorm#30,
SPORTS REPORTER
South
Bend– This could be one hell of a finish.
With
the second season of DaOne league winding down, Pac-10 Conference
fans (for that matter, fans of college football in general) will
get to see one game decide the winner of the division crown. #1
South Carolina (9-0) travels to South Bend to take on the #4 Fighting
Irish of Notre Dame (9-0) in the regular season finale for both
teams. Tickets for this game have been hard to come by, and both
coaches have circled the date of this matchup for weeks.
On
paper, the stats bear both teams out as equals: decimal points are
all that separates the Gamecocks and Fighting Irish on both points
for and points against (although the Gamecocks do average over 100
yards more per game). Classic matchup of high-powered offense versus
top-notch defense? Notre Dame Coach TDaug feels it is. “I
have the better rated team on D and he has the better rated team
on O...Classic match up,” he said. “We’ll find
out who can control their side of the ball better.”
Gamecocks
Coach Davon904 has a slightly different take. “It's no secret
how we've been winning games this season--stellar defense and a
strong running game which will hopefully open things up,”
he stated. “Take a look at ND's and (our) points for and against
throughout the season. We are almost identical, and I feel we rely
on many of the same things to help us win ball games. So something
has got to give.” Chances are, something will.
With
the game taking place in South Bend in front of a raucous Notre
Dame crowd, and also the fact that these two teams are practically
equal, the home field could definitely have an effect on this game.
Davon904 hopes to take the crowd out of the game early, though.
“Our plan for the crowd: block them out and stay focused,”
he says matter of factly. “It'll be hard enough to win this
game vs. a talented team with an outstanding coach to boot. South
Bend is an extremely tough place to play… I have the utmost
confidence in our boys to stay focused and play this game on the
field, without being affected much by the crowd. But you never know...in
a game this big, anything can happen, and anything can become a
factor. We'll learn alot about the character of this team throughout
the course of this game.” TDaug knows how big homefield is
in this game, and he’s glad to have it. Asked about the factor
it could play, he said that it’s “huge. If I happen
to force one turnover, for some reason the BIG MOMENTUM really turns
up at (Notre Dame) Stadium.”
As
for history? These two coaches have definitely locked horns in the
past, and by listening to TDaug, you’d think it was pretty
one-sided—but this game could be different. “We know
Davon has had our number in years past, but we believe we have all
the stars aligned right for this one...He'll have to play his best
game to win, as we feel we are as ready as we can be.” The
South Carolina coach has nothing but respect for his counterpart
in this finale—and also some advice. “Bring your A+
Game...and then some. Cuz I plan to do the same. Best of luck and
may the best team win. I'm honored to match wits with a coach whom
I have great respect for, in a game that means so much.”
Line
‘em up, boys. Stay tuned, fans—this game will be one
to remember.
Season II, Here We Come!
by
Mad_Scientist, LEAGUE
PRESIDENT and OWNER of MADDENMATRIX.COM
DaONE
league is set to start its second season. This year we've reduced
the number of teams from 117 to 40. We have also eliminated the
top 7 rated teams to create more of an even playing field, so Miami,
USC, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Ohio State, and Texas
will not be used in season II. DaONE
will feature 5 conferences (ACC, Big East, Big 10, Pac 10, and the
SEC), with 8 teams each. Each of the 40 teams were ranked by their
overal ratings in the Prima Strategy Guide (from Pittsburgh at 94OVR
to Duke at 70), then divided into the 5 conferences in order of
rank (the top rated team to conference 1; the second rated team
to conference 2, etc) to equally disperse team strength in each
conference. The schedule was created even before the teams were
selected using the same approach. This should make for a very interesting
season.

Marks Da Spot!!!

Contratulations
to XtraPott, he is DaONE!
This first season was a battle of attrition
not for the faint of heart. Many of the 117 ballers that started
the fierce journey fell by the wayside, unable to weather the storm.
A core of steadfast, elite ballers remained, however, and made a
blood oath to fight to da very end. Thirty-two ballers made the
playoffs and the battles ensued. Many games went down to the wire.
From the many, XtraPott has emerged as the UNDISPUTED UNDEFEATED
champion of our first season.
X's path through the playoffs was not an easy one:
Round one: X over MadSci (Georgia)
28-21 (Double-overtime)
Sweet 16: X over MCSTL25 (Missouri)
30-7
Elite 8: X over TDAUG (NotreDame)
27-24 (Double-overtime)
Final 4: X over BigG (Ohio State)
34-31
Champtionship: X over Canes
(Miami) 31-17
In both double-overtimes, the X-Man came from behind in the final
minutes to tie the score. Not many people game him a chance against
Ohio State and Miami, but X proved them wrong, and shocked many
of us. He is truly...DaONE!
Can the X-man repeat? Destiny awaits...
